First Visit

Dr. Stecker recommends that all children have their first dental appointment before the age of two.

As a parent, you can play an important role in making the first visit positive and enjoyable. If old enough, your child should be informed of the appointment and told that Dr. Brian and his staff will explain all procedures and answer any questions.

It is best if the parent refrains from using words that might cause unnecessary fear such as "needle", "shot", "drill",  "pull" or "hurt". Our office makes a practice of speaking to the child with words that convey the procedures but that are calming and non-threatening to the child.

We invite parents of children under the age of four to stay with their child during the initial examination. For future appointments, we recommend that you allow your child to accompany our staff. In doing so, we can develop a closer relationship with your child when the parent is not present. Our focus is to gain your child’s trust and overcome any uneasiness. All other children who are not being treated should remain in our waiting room with adult supervision.

Our goal is to make your child’s visit to our office a fun and happy experience!
